Cabins & Cross-Country Skiing in Central New York

Now for a post that's a little out of context! While I was visiting my family in New York, we took a trip up to the Fish Creek Cabin Resort in Taberg. It's a little cluster of cabins in a tiny town, which is open year-round for seasonal activities. My family, my boyfriend, and I rented two cabins for the weekend to enjoy some snow sports.
We drove up on Friday evening and spent the time just playing some board games, eating food, and enjoying each other's company by the little space heater. Here is the kitchen/living area in the cabin that my boyfriend and I shared, where we spent the most time.

It was well-equipped with an oven, fridge, and microwave. Off of the main room was a small bathroom with a shower and a bedroom with a set of bunk beds with a double bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top.

The cabins were clean and well-maintained. We had to provide our own linens and towels, and I would advise bringing enough food to survive your visit because there are only two tiny restaurants and a small convenience store. Though, Rome is only a 30 minute drive away if you are really in need of civilization.

On Saturday, we got up and went over to Oseola Tug Hill XC Ski Center to do some cross-country skiing. Each cabin came with two free trail passes and ski rentals, so we only had to pay for one person to ski! The trails were not very well marked and the map was kind of confusing, so we just went down one that looked like it wouldn't be too challenging. It ended up being quite long, culminating at a small creek, which provided a pretty view.

Next, Allen and I went back out to find the Christmas Tree trail, which was very picturesque, with large evergreens covered in snow.

After grabbing a late lunch, we headed out to do some snow tubing at Woods Valley Ski Area. The hill looked pretty unassuming, but we quickly learned that it was quite an exhilarating experience. The staff was very friendly and aimed to show us a good time, allowing people to link up their tubes into trains and sending them spinning at ridiculous speeds down the slope. Nearing the end of our time there, freezing rain started up, causing us to go down even faster!

We made it back to the cabins rather slowly due to the ice and waited out the night in the cabins, leaving pretty early the next morning to actually start our trek back to North Carolina. It was a great trip, and I highly recommend the experience!
