Catching Up

Wow, has it really been over a month since my last post?? Sorry to leave everyone hanging, it's just been a really crazy time! At the beginning of May, I went on a two-week trip around Europe with my boyfriend carrying just a backpack and using Airbnb to stay with locals. So besides just the trip, there was a lot of preparation leading up to that and a lot to catch up on once I got back. I will be updating with nail posts from before my trip and after, so keep your eye out! For more info on what I did while I was gone, read on!
We started our trip in Venice, Italy, where we took in the charm of the canals, small walkways, and beautiful buildings. We walked our way through most of the city, making sure to hit all of the historic sites, particularly at Piazza San Marco.

Next, we took the train down to Florence, Italy, where we visited the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, walked across the Arno River on the Ponte Vecchio, and walked up to Piazzale Michelangelo.

From Florence, we took a day trip to a string of old seaside villages called Cinque Terre. We visited all five of the small towns and did a lot of hiking, food sampling, and taking in the beautiful Mediterranean views.

After Florence, we made our way down to Rome, Italy. We visited the Vatican and all the historical Roman sites downtown.

After a little bit of a mishap with our flight being cancelled, we made our way up to the Czech Republic to visit Prague. We spent one day exploring the "Old Town" and another visiting the Prague Castle.

From Prague, we took a series of buses and trains to get to one of the best-preserved medieval towns: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany. We walked along the old city walls to get great views, took a tour with the Night Watchman, did some shopping, and visited the Medieval Crime Museum.

Then, we traveled down to Munich, Germany, where we walked around the entire city center seeing both the modern and historic landmarks. We also spent one whole day at the Deutsches Museum, which is the largest museum of science and technology in the world!

After Munich, we crossed into Switzerland where we visited Zurich. We went to a bunch of museums, walked through the historical center along the Limmat River, and viewed the city from atop Uetliberg Mountain.

For our final day before heading back home, we took the train through the Alps to Milan, Italy. We spent the day wandering around the city, being sure to hit the Duomo.

It was a whirlwind of a trip, but it was a great intro to Europe for us. We saw so many beautiful things and learned a lot about European history. Now it's back to the grind of everyday life, but always planning the next trip in the back of my mind.
